Gee, our zonal IMs are nothing compared to this: http://en.chessbase.com/post/south-africa-s-first-grandmaster

A GM title in an event with a single GM competing, and an average rating around 2200.

Mind you, Solomon is no slouch. He had all the required GM norms already, and just needed a 2500 rating until this result.

Still, 2400 GM err...what if next year Adli does not play and it goes to some 2300? anything is possible.

If African continent title winner gets auto GM. so should all other continent winners, with the possible exception of Antarctica.

My point is entirely opposite, there should be no soft titles. They also got a 1900 something rated WGM

All Continental gold medal individual winners do get GM. See http://www.fide.com/fide/handbook.html?id=173&view=article for the full list of Direct Qualifications, for titles.

So if we run Oceania Championships, we too can get several 2400 rated GMs - Oceania and Africa are 2 continents where it will inavitebly result in soft titles. Other continental Champions are going to be GMs (possibly super-GMs) already

Why is the African tournament 'continental' while the Oceania Zonal is counted as 'sub-continental'?

Oceania is not a "continent" in FIDE, it is a zone within Asia. FIDE has four "continents" - Africa, Asia, America, Europe.
