Hi all

Just letting you know that the White Lace Motor Inn www.whitelace.com.au have double and twin rooms available for $99.00 per night. You can book online at Wotif or booking.com. Go to their website at www.whitelace.com.au and see the motel -this is a quality 4 star motel - unbelievable price for the quality - yes $99.00 per night for twin share or double. The motel is about 3 mins walk to KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway and a 24 hour IGA store. Someone from the Mackay Chess Club can collect you each day from the motel and take you to the tournament venue and also drop you back.

Looking forward to meeting more out of town chess players. If the numbers are above 20 players we will increase the prize pool.

Regards

Dale

Hi all

Currently there are some really cheap airfares available for the weekend of 21st and 22nd Feb if you get in now and book and pay. Prices range from $60.00 to $80.00 each way - Brisbane to Mackay and Mackay to Brisbane. Hoping to get a total of around 30 players this year. Look forward to seeing some new people as well.

Regards

Dale

Jetstar has a cheap flight up to Mackay on Saturday February 21 for just $69 at the moment: The flight leaves Brisbane at 7:05am and lands in Mackay at 8:35am, well before the Round 1 starting time of 9:30am!

Dale Noack from Mackay Chess Club will be happy to pick you up from the airport too and drop you back when you leave! Just email Dale with your request: mackaychessclub@yahoo.com

The 2015 MACKAY OPEN CHESS TOURNAMENT is on Saturday February 21 and Sunday February 22 at the Harrup Park Country Club in Mackay. Get your entry form now from the Chess Association of Queensland Website: www.caq.org.au under Upcoming Events!

Still leaves the problem of getting to Brisbane by 0705.
Two byes or not two byes that is the question.

Brilliant Martin!

I believe there are a number of players from Townsville coming down for the weekend as well which is great to see. Who knows, if there is an odd-number someone might even be able to twist my arm into shoving the pieces around!

Stokesy has just booked a $69 Jetstar flight from Brisbane to Mackay on Sat Feb 21, leaving Brisbane at 7:05am and arriving in Mackay at 8:35am. This will give plenty of time to get to the playing venue in time for R1 which starts at 9:30am!
Who wants to come fly with me to Mackay???? I will be picked up from the airport and driven to the playing venue for free, courtesy of Mackay Chess Club!

Thanks for the tournament promotion Mark and Andrew - much appreciated. Currently we have 18 entries and with a local radio station giving us FREE 15 x 30 second commercials next Mon - Wed (16-19 Feb) we are hoping to attract some more locals out of the woodwork. It is a great venue and there is some cheap accommodation around town at the moment. Looking forward to seeing those who can come.

Hi all

We have had an issue with emails to the club official email address mackaychessclub@yahoo.com.au bouncing back with an error saying this does not exist. I have contacted yahoo and they are looking into it. In the interim you can also contact us on 0419 56 99 55 or dmnoack358@hotmail.com

I did forget to mention that the winner of the tournament also takes away a trophy hand turned from local Mackay Cedar - it is a rook mounted on a board done by the local woodturning club- it is a bit more of something to take away with the cash prize.

Mark Stokes saw the one from last year and can confirm it is a great looking trophy.

Cheers

Dale

Having pontoons fitted to the Pajero. I hope Marcia is a fan of chess and does not get in the way.

Will this tournament still be going ahead with Marcia heading for Category 5? If so, you can most likely count me in.

Regardless, I hope you Mackay residents stay safe with the cyclone imminent. It's looking rather nasty. Best wishes.

Well i'm up here and ready to arbit the tournament so at this stage I would say it will go ahead - Dale is the person to answer that though. I haven't heard it won't be!

Cyclone due to hit overnight and into the morning, so by Saturday hopefully has cleared mostly!

Hi All - have had to wimp out. The Bruce is cut at Marlborough so we would not have made it. Good luck to all those who can get there.

Anyone still thinking of coming - we will delay start of first round to allow late arrivals to paly without missing a game.

Apologies for the delay in getting results up. I got roped into playing today as we had odd numbers and I've been the last game going in every round!

Hi all tournament players

Thanks again to everyone who travelled to the tournament from Townsville and Brisbane and also the locals who put their hand up to play. Unfortunately the cyclone prevented another 3 or 4 from coming.

Well done to Lyall Ford who was the top finishing Mackay local and has now qualified for the State Champs in October.

Lyall last played a chess tournament 30 ( yes 30) years ago and was surprised that there was still a record of his rating all these years later.

Well done Lyall.

Thanks Andrew for great job as arbiter and well done on winning.

Looking forward to more people next year.

Regards

Dale
