In Rd1. Leon Kempen upset GM Bouasis (2321):clap: . In Round 2 he is playing yet another GM (Sturua).

More good news: Benson drew with FM Hohler in rd.3 Overall, Australians are performing above their fide ratings so far

After 5 rounds, Australians continue to perform above their ratings: in 65+ category, Benson is on 2.5/5 with 2050+ performance.Korenevsky has gained over 20 rating pionts and is also on 2.5 . Krstic is the only one performing below his rating so far.
In the 50+ section - Kempen is on 2.5/5 performing over 30 points above his rating!

Australians keep going well. Both Kempen and Kristic defeated higher rated opponents in round 8.
Kempen's performance rating so far is 2315!

Orh, how could I miss this particular well-done and not comment earlier :) :) :).
On another note, was interesting to see GM Malinin play in the event. In Russia there are a lot of chess jokes about him as he bought His GM title...then his rating started sliding back to where it belongs.

Do you mean that money may have changed hands for him to win games? you can answer via PM to avoid libel. How much would such a title cost me?

To answer AC's second question I don't think it would be possible for a 1500 player to buy a GM title. You probably need to talk to a Bulgarian IT guy.

It is possible!~I can think of a couple of GMs who have done just that!
