Now you are tempting me mate, and you know as Oscar the Great once said, "I can resist anything but temptation"! I miss the place and all of you guys too. I had a great time last time. Now I have that week free and it's after the Hjorth Cup at MCC. Only problem is that on Sat 15 it's the penultimate round of my Club's Spring Cup and we 're not allowed byes in the last couple of rounds! Good luck to you all anyways!

Apparently this tournament was won by FM Gene Nakauchi with 6/6. 18 players competed. Hopefully the organisers/arbiter can post more detailed results in due course.

It's a real pity the G20 was held this same weekend. I think rumours of a sporadically shut-down Gateway Motorway scared a few people away for sure.

Here are the results that I have just received. I agree with Kevin - unlucky timing for the tournament, but hopefully the next Suncoast instalment (Australia Day weekend - stay tuned!) will attract greater numbers.

6/6 for Gene, and a strong 5/6 and outright second for Tony Zhong. Young Josh Morris continues to impress, beating Redcliffe duo Tony Weller and Mark Stokes to share third place with Tony on 4/6.

If anyone wishes to have games from the tournament published, the Chess Chat audience always appreciates posted games, and I would happily include any games received in my next CAQ newsletter.

In 2011 a chap named Rex made this comment elsewhere:

take a look at the Australian Day weekender run by Garven [sic] - only 19 players. Most Queenslanders hate him and they stayed away because he was running this event.
I wonder what he would make of this tournament.

That no matter how good the product is you need to be out there talking about it

AC: well when I played under Garvin as arbiter I found him excellent in all regards
