The 2014 Tata Steel tournament begins on 10 Jan with the following 12 players (avg rating 2743). I think that 10 of the 12 players are aged upto 31 years.

Not such a grand event this year. Just 4 of the top 10 players are playing. Apparently, there has been a budget cut.

Did Eugene Torre never get higher?

Not sure he got higher than low 2600s. 2700 was a rare rating when he was at his peak.

Not much interest here, but Aronian has delivered a staggering 8/10 so far to win with a round to spare in maybe the greatest tournament performance since Karpov at Linares in 1994. The weaker field may limit such claims.

Ha! I must have put the mockers on him, because he's just gone and blundered with white against Van Wely! Missed the relatively simple 38. ... Bd4+

Still comes out as a pretty stellar 2911 PR.
