It is a pretty strong club it includes: David Hughes(Burnie CC Champion 2011 Rating 1500+) Lenard Lange(rating 1300+) James Peirce (9th State Chesskid Finals Rated 1100+) Kiran Waker (6th State Chesskids Finals Rated 1100+) Timothy Butler( Rated 1100+) Charles Weiss (Rated 1100+) Zen Zero(Rated 1200+)

It is quite funny that despite been last at Burnie Shines this year i often come 1st at the DCC, probably due to the fact it is 15 or 10mins game which i don't lose very often

Any chance for publishing a calendar for 2013 events JM?

Hi Junior Master

For the DCC since I am planning to visit Tassie at least twice during 2013!

In both cases my disembarking point (I am travelling with Spirit of Tassie) will be Devonport.

So it might be ideal to play a tournament in your club, and the other at Hobart like I did in June 2011 (Tasmanian Open)!

My staying in Tassie in both times will be from 10 days to two weeks so I can begin or end my holidays there with a chess tournament!

Thanks in advance!

Here's a pic of Devonport from the Spirit of Tassie on its way to mooring at Mersey River:

The DCC is held during school terms, while it has no "official" tournaments due to time constraints we will often run a 7,8,9 round tournament over 2 or 3 Fridays. 15 or 10mins game most likely.

The DCC is mostly for juniors but i think it would be good practice for our juniors to take on some (strong?) opposition espicially as playing David Hughes over 20 times is getting a bit boring. (my record in 15mins or lower against David is about +10 =1 -12 (not bad for a 15yr old who only started playing chess 3 years ago

Oh ok thanks! Didn't know it was only for juniors. Having said that it's great that you guys have a club mainly for juniors! Cheers and good luck!

James Peirce

It is mostly for juniors but i am sure David Hughes wouldn't mind. It is more for the improvement of juniors than a "juniors only" club. You would be more than welcome to come as David said it was about the competition, not the level of skill.(or otherwise)

Thanks JM, I will check the dates of your tournaments and will try to visit! Cheers and good luck!

Deal! I 'll let you guys know when I am there and thanks! Is the venue close to the mall? Usually, I stay in one of the hotels at Fornby Rd across the Mersey from the Spirit of Tassie!

(Note: Do you want to have a game of correspondonce in the meanwhile?)

You 're on! Give me till Dec 1st when I will be back home from QLD, But we have to finish before New Year's Eve, because I will be travelling to Sydney for the Open!

It is nice to be one of the top players in a fairly strong club.
There could possibly be a match with the Launceston Junior Chess Club sometime next year.

For 2013 the DCC will probably be run on a Sunday so as to allow long games and hopefully encourage more players from Burnie to come and give the juniors a game.

ER

Can you be more specific please? This Sunday business looks very interesting for someone who wants to spend a weekend in Tassie!

LOL yeah, I 've been everywhere, even Devonport!

BTW a European tourist magazine long ago had published some of the Tassie pics I sent them!

They chose 4 from Devonport and 3 from Hobart including The Mercury newspaper building - the one that looks like a wedding cake before the decoration!:P (joking, really it's an iconic landmark)!

Last time I visited Tassie they were going to move somewhere close to Salamanca Market! I don't know if they did!

Mind you, originally I had sent them a set of 24 with about 15 from Hobart and the rest from other places!

Yes they have done that now. The Mercury building has no mercury in it anymore.

Correct. Facade is certainly intact, which some would say is a fitting reflection on its former occupant. :P

A scientific study proved that pride comes before a fall.
They got 300 people to play a war game, before they predicted how they would do, the people who thought they would do better were mostly worst:lol:

The DCC for 2013 will start on the 24th of February

February 24th DCC
1. David Hughes 6/6 ACF 1652
2. Junior Master(James Peirce) 5/6
3. Lenard Lange 4/6 1255
This is just the top 3 as i haven't got the full results from D.Hughes yet

"Is NSW the most affordable chess playing State in Aus?
Well the DCC is completely free which is very uncommon for a chess club. What criteria would we use to determine the most "affordable" chess playing state?
See you in June hopefully JaK
Note: your name is getting tedious to type:lol:

Last Sunday we only had 5 so we all got to play each other, I played 9 games with David Hughes ACF 1598!! and it was split 4 1/2- 4 1/2.

Hopefully next time i can do better. The first game was 25mins each which i won and the rest were at lightning time controls 5mins each.:hmm:
