Perhaps inspired by Sheroff's thread I was thinking about knight mates while practicing and came up with the following puzzle. Although not very hard the solutions are quite neat.

What is the shortest mate possible where one side must mate with a knight but only moving that knight to create the mate?

There is also an analogy with the more well known puzzle of shortest mate with a knight.

Is this what you mean ? 3 vaguely plausible moves:
1.e4 Nc6 2.g3 Nd4 3.Ne2 Nf3# 0-1

Sorry I should have been clearer. The knight is not allowed to move until the checkmating move.

1.f4 e6 2.Kf2 Qf6 3.Kf3 Qc3 4.Ke4 Nf6 or 1.d4 e6 2.Kd2 Qh4 3.Kd3 Qg3 4.Ke4 Nf6. Naturally the move order can be varied in a few ways.

Yes! Extra points for finding both. As I said, not overly challenging.

Not bad for a puzzle made in 1 minute while practicing piano? ;)
