The 22nd World Senior Chess Championships will take place 12-25 November 2012 at Kamena Vourla GREECE.

Richard Voon (AUS) will represent Zone 3.6 (Oceania).

The following article was published in the Sydney Morning Herald on Monday 19th November 2012.

The World Seniors championship for men and women in Kamena Vourla, Greece has attracted 106 players from 39 countries including 10 grandmasters. Leading scores after round 5 :- GM Y.Balashov (RUS 2475), GM A.Vaisser (FRA 2540) 4.5.

Scores of the three Australians :- L.Benson (AUS 2021) 2.5, S.Krstic (AUS 2004) 2.5, R.Voon (AUS 1949) 2.

Stop Press: The 3 Australians lost in round 6.

The tournament has finished with all of the 3 auzzies performing well. Kristic and Benson both performed above 2100~!:clap:

The tournament was won by the danish "new-senior" IM Jens Kristiansen who now can call himself Grandmaster.

He is from the Copenhagen suburb Gladsaxe, he lived and worked a few years in Greenland. Now he lives in Frederiksværk - which is the town where I and Jacob Aagaard come from.

Worlds Seniors in Kamena Vourla, Greece leading final scores (106 players from 39 countries, 11 rounds):- IM J.Kristiansen (DEN 2429) 9, GM A.Vaisser (FRA 2540),GM E.Sveshnikov (LAT 2507) 8.5. Results of the three Australians:- L.Benson (2021) 5.5 place 58, S.Krstic ( 2004) 5.5 place 60, R.Voon ( 1949) 5 place 70.
