Dear All

See attached schedule for this year's chess festival.
Some changes here from previous events due to the Chess Olympiad and the Muslim Ramadan Festival.
Dato' has suggested a rapid event for all events due to the above.
Apologies for the delay in informing all of you.
Entry Forms and other details to follow.

The dates are fixed. Hope you all can support the event.

The 2011 Yulgilbar-Think Big Grand Prix prize winners are:

Stephen Solomon
Emma Guo
Bobby Cheng
Gene Nakauchi

Each of the above will receive $1250 travel prize if they play in the Malaysian Festival 20-25 August 2012 (possibly on the way through to the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul).

We hope to enter at least two teams in the Astro Team Championship!

Travel plans:

MH122 to KL at 2pm on 19 August.

MH30 to Istanbul at 00.30 on Monday 27 August!

Provisional team players for Merdeka rapid is as follows:

1. IM Stephen Solomon
2. Nick Speck (maybe)
3. WIM Emma Guo
4. FM Brian Jones
5. Edwin Lam

We may enter two teams if we get sufficient numbers!

wow, we were only there last August and I thought it was like three years since it was held! :lol: I 'd visit again but not this year since Istanbul has been scheduled! good luck to all the participants and say terima kasih KL on my behalf :)

The Malaysian Open Combined Individual Rapid is now completed.

176 players. 5 from Australia and 1 from Fiji.

Winner was GM Antonio (PHI) 9/11

IM Solomon scored 7.5/11

WIM Emma Guo scored 6.5/11

FM Brian Jones scored 6/11

Jamie-Lee Guo and Sikivou Taione (FIJ) scored 5/11

Stephen Retallick scored 4.5/11

IM Stephen Solomon is now playing in the Blitz.

Merdeka Teams Rapid starts tomorrow.

The Australian team in the competition is named 'Klang Valley Koalas'.

The Koalas did well, though 3 Filipino teams all did better! Some great photos in that link.
