I can leave the board open if you don't mind losing the messages posted during the maintenance work :)

Not sure Garvin, want to get as much work done as possible.

I was simply noting it was unfortunate, not that you should postpone it.

I don't have to postpone it to get this work done, I can leave it on, though any messages posted during this time will be lost once the work is finished.

I have been gypped.

As well as scheduled maintenance we have suffered reduced functionality.

New is
"You can only edit/delete for 15 minutes after the post has been made. This stops people editing / deleting after a long time.

After the 15 minutes has elapsed you need to request Jeo to make the edit."

I will have to change some of my posting practice.

I have been gypped.

It is required. Before this change there is nothing to stop people to delete or edit posts made a long time ago.

Edit: To be more precise, it is important to stop this, since there is no way to actively monitor these events, to protect CC and members from legal action.

I think 15 mins is way too short. Edits are useful for fixing up honest mistakes and unsightly errors (spelling, formatting etc) in posts, for retracting genuinely stupid things said in the heat of battle, and for continually editing game boards in cases where a position is being updated (eg people have been posting updates on progress of games in the World Champs when the main site has been down.)

I see why you want the limit but my suggestion for a better limit would be one day.

I've increased the limit to 12 hours after speaking to Kevin :)

apache recompiled.

Apache Recompiled again with PHP 4.3.10. Zend upgraded to 2.5.7.

Barry you might want to upgrade, there are several security issues with serialize() and some other PHP hashtable issues in 4.3.9. Also upgrade to phpBB 2.0.11 because over 40,000 phpBB sites have been compromised and defaced that were running <= 2.0.10

hello Mr Cox

Are you the one rostered on duty at the moment?
Any chance that you could get an ETA of whether the top ten shoutbox counts will be available by about 9.30am this morning. We need the figures by 10am, and if they are n.a. then we will just count manually from our Wednesday 10am base-line.
From what I can see, there have been difficulties overnight reviving full function.

yours, patiently

ps Do we have to tip you for this mirror trick also?

Can't help I'm afraid. It doesn't work for me either and I don't have SQL access to run a query against the DB. So I guess you're going to have to confer with stewards and declare a "no race" today.

Thanks for doing the 'mirror trick' by looking into it.
There will be a 'race result', but we will have to revert to semaphore flags to signal the winners.
Usually no shoutbox usage in the early morning anyway, so I will just take the figures as-is-now and table at the 10am coffee-break.

I could have given you another tip if you had wanted it? (Your post #23).

I seem to be running into a lot of "server busy" errors since the upgrade. Coincidence?

Yeah, when the system does auto backup, then tar, gzip, pkgacct etc are all running loads run up to 5+, so the forum turns away users. It should be okay now, load < 0.5.
