FICS [Free Internet Chess Server] has its long time control event - 60 mins each with a 30 secs increment - beginning on Sep 6 2011. One game is played a week online at a mutually agreed upon time by the players.

To enter you have to first register on FICS [http://www.freechess.org/] and then on the STC bunch [Slow Time Control] site you can enter the event. [http://stcbunch.net/]

Any rating is allowed. But it is split into two groups of above or below FICS 1650 for a standard rating.

I might be the only Aussie competing against the rest of the world. I don't want to feel lonely

p.s of course it is free to enter! Babaschess is a good FICS interface as well.

"Late-joins will be open through rounds one, two and three. Players late-joining will receive a half a point for each round missed."

Thought that was worth adding as well. [quoted from the rules for the event on the STC] . Not that you should deliberately late join. But it is there as an option.
