Eighteen players competed in the One Day Chess Tournament at Maryborough on Saturday 11 June

As there were only five Junior players, the Tournament was run as one Tournament with no Senior and Junior Divisions.

First place was gained by Brian Thomas with seven out of eight games. Brian Marinovic won his game against Brian Thomas, thereby preventing him from having a grand slam win of eight out of eight games. Second place was gained by Keith McLeod with seven out of eight games. Third place was gained by Brian Marinovic with 5.5 games out of eight games.

The top Junior players were Brandon Dahl with 4.5 games out of eight games. He was closely followed by Brandon Lowe with four games out of eight. David House was the third placed Junior.

The tournament was fortunate to have visually impaired play Alex Momot competing. He gained a very creditable four out of eight games. He was an inspiration to all competitors, using his special braille board. Channel Nine and the Maryborough Chronicle both sent reporters and camera men to cover the tournament.

Director of Play for the day was Allan Menham, Secretary/Treasurer of the Bundaberg Chess Club Inc. Allan was impressed with the high standard of many of the games

The next Maryborough Tournament is to be held in November 2011.
