Rad Chmiel is the first confirmed entry to this event. Hopefully we can get a big field in honour of Eddie - who put in 40 years service to MCC.

How are entries going for this one?

I think entries are going good, taking into account that usually most players enter at the last minute, on the night of the tournament. Besides those already mentioned, I know quite a few who are considering entering. I suppose that the Victorian Championship and Reserves will deter a few from playing, as there is only so much chess one can play each week.

However, I expect this tournament to continue the trend at the MCC this year, and exceed entries from the previous year.:)

Easily cleared up

It is 7 rounds

Ok, so 6 weeks and a couple of hours from start to finish, much shorter than the 9 weeks Baron was worried about!

I will be away for the first 2 weeks of the tournament, is it possible to get a half point bye for the first round and a postponement for the second

Yeah, fair enough - you've got me on that one...

I will have to be more careful next time...

Remember that this event is the third of the 5 MCC Grand Prix events for the year.

None of the leaders (Morris, Rujevic, Dragicevic and Pyke) have entered yet, so those who do play may get an important opportunity to make up some ground on them!

Morris (the leader) has 14.5 points and the players currently in 5th place all have 11 points.... So a score of 50% (3.5/7) will get you alongside IM James Morris if he decides not to play...

That said, Im sure that some of the 4 leaders will play - I would be very surprised if Pyke didnt play.

A decent tournament (http://www.melbournechessclub.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=44&Itemid=83) considering the clash with the Victorian championship.

You indicated on your blog that Phillip Drew beat Gary Bekker, yet the result is the opposite on the MCC website. Which result is correct?

Phillip Drew won. This also means the pairings, which indicated a win for Bekker, will have to be changed.

You are all absolutely correct, somehow this game had been scored wrong in SP.

This has been corrected, and the draw (http://melbournechessclub.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=44&Itemid=83) has subsequently been changed to reflect the correct results of the previous rounds.

My apologies for this.
