Looking at the unrated tournaments section on the CAQ website, it appears that only the Bundaberg Chess Club Inc runs unrated tournaments. Does any other Club in Queensland run unrated tournaments and if so, why do they not put them up on the CAQ website

Hi Allan -

Various clubs hold Rapid chess tournaments, and some are not rated. It is certainly worth checking with individual clubs close to you to see what they might have on the cards. For example, the Gold Coast Rapid held at Gardiner Chess a couple weeks back had an awesome turnout and some top players (including Solomon, Nagauchi, Liu etc), and wasn't rated. But I suspect it depends on the club. You'll find that just about all the slow-time-control tourneys are generally rated. It's certainly worth contacting clubs such as Logan, The Gap, Suncoast, Redcliffe etc. Of course Blitz events are not rated, if you're into that.

You'll find the CAQ tends, quite naturally, to promote its own events, and for anything else, you really have to do your own groundwork in tracking down those non-rated events.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
