[This is an old post, scroll down to post 13]

I'll be on 7ZR (ABC AM) radio talking about chess today in a segment starting from 2:30

Online listening link http://radiotime.com/station/s_9117/ABC_Hobart_936.aspx

This is triggered by the widespread reporting of chess being made a compulsory school subject in Armenia but apparently I'll also be talking about stuff like how young you have to start to be good and so on.

I've appeared on radio fairly often for a wide range of reasons. Actually I was surprised this one was about chess since I had an election analysis article released on the weekend and thought it would be to do with that instead when they called.

Anyway if any copy of this broadcast becomes available I'll post a link. Not really all that interesting though, a lot of it was just about me and how I got interested in playing and so on.

On again tonight, from 9 pm after the news and a song so probably actually start talking circa 9:07.

Not sure exactly what I'll be asked about this time but the brief I've been given is that it will be partly about the appeal of OTB board games as opposed to video games and the like.

We may also play some moves and talk about basic strategies.

[28-03-2012 09:31 PM] Tony Dowden: Great effort from Kevin

I didn't actually play all that well in the "game" - 6.f3 especially is unadventurous and in the final position white has probably only a slender advantage at our level but it was a good one for talking about principles and the sorts of things tournament players will take into account.

The black king and queen from the giant public board in Latrobe were stolen in broad daylight.

Probably similar to the use they have for road signs.

Shotgun target practice?

That's one. The other, that I had in mind, was taking them for display at home. It used to be a practice in Melbourne when I was there but perhaps it's gone out of fashion as that was long ago.

PS I've just noticed also that Rosalie Gascoigne's work Metropolis 1999 comprises many road signs in a way that only she could conceive.
