Twenty children attended the Sunday Children’s Chess Tournament held at the U3A rooms on 27 March 2011.
Competition was keen and many good games were played with quite a few upsets.
In the first division, Brandon Lowe from Maryborough blitzed the field winning seven out of eight games. He was closely followed by Andrew Olley with six games. Aishwarya Preshy and Matthew Riggs both scored five and a half games.
In the second division, David Riggs won four and a half games, Catherine Riggs and Courtney Parfitt won four games and Mitchell Riggs won three and a half games.
This was also the third round of the 2011 Grand Prix which is currently being won by Timothy Harris with a score of twenty one and a half games out of a possible 24 games.
In the upsets, Tim Harris was defeated by his brother Patrick, Courtney Parfitt defeated Courtney Ryan, and Bryce Rosser defeated Brandon Lowe
Bundaberg Chess Club Secretary Allan Menham said the children just continue to improve and there are certainly some future champions amongst them
