Count me in Captain thanks! ... Also:
1) please count me in for the Club's championship!
oooops I just checked the calendar - three of the Champ's dates coincide with other tournaments I have already entered (Parramatta Festival, Geelong Open and Tasmanian Open so I can't make it! apologies 2) am I late for this year's membership fee? I forgot all about it!

I had to get to page two to find this my pet tournament, but we do have our first entrant. Fludey the Box Hill calendar guru has thrown his hat into the ring. Sorry about the cliche folks I was going to use first cab of the rank but my alter ego used that before

The pit bull terrier has entered. Watch out for my ferocious openings.

More importantly I am seeing the eye specialist next week. I need new glasses.
This should make a difference.

We have our first paid up early bird entrant in Carl Loucas who has also entered the Vic Junior under 12 and under 18 tournaments. Carl is one of growing band of Canterbury juniors we call the next generation

We now also have an entry for FM Bobby Cheng who as we remember was a joint winner last year with FM ErikTeichman, ahead of GM David Smerdon, fellow Box Hill star Chris Wallis, and IM Igor Goldenberg.

There have been requests for 1/2 points byes already and although the tournament organizer is not a great fan of this modern tendency he accepts that the reality is with us. The protocol [if that is the word I am thinking of] for this tournament will be as follows
A player can take one 1/2 point bye for one round only up to and including round 5 provided the player requests such a bye before the previous round or at the time of entering

Tornelo will again be broadcasting results from the Vic Open during the long weekend.

Just to make it clear - we are uninvited, unofficial and there totally without connection to BHCC, CV or the ACF.

We'll keep the entry list up-to-date as much as possible at:

http://auschess.tornelo.com/tournaments/victorian-open-weekender

And you should be able to see a few live games, and live results... hopefully it can add something to the usually excellent coverage of event that BHCC provides.

I am wondering what would it take for another club to be able to run it.They would have to start by putting up their hand when expressions of interest were called for:hmm:

Having said that, look at the numbers that BHCC manage to pull in each year  compared to most other Vic tournaments and you would have to wonder why you would move it.

BTW please accept my entry fee (in full and not early bird) as a donation toward the expenses of the tournament as you see fit.

Most probably I will give you the money tomorrow night at the Club!

The early bird result of 65 entries should give us a good field at the start of the tournament. Any figure Between 65 and a hundred is possible. Previous attendances have been: 2005, 96, 2006, 68, 2007, 81, 2008, 69, 2009, 76, 2010, 89

Yes, it's a pity but some old bloke banned Tornelo from any involvement with the tournament. So we have no games or live results. Looks like it's a poor field anyway so we aren't missing much.

Actually the MCC Allegro got a stronger field on Saturday than the Vic Open... (Baron, Morris, Rutherford etc) Not that it really matters...

By the way, who was the old bloke?

Could it be that this wise decision released the green-eyed monster inside some posters in this thread?

Could it be that this wise decision released the green-eyed monster inside some posters in this thread?

:owned:

I dont think that there is any jealousy of BHCC running the event - remember that no other club bothered to put in an application to run it. Our club (MCC) certainly didnt want it. In the whole time Ive been MCC president, not once has any MCC member ever asked me to put in an application to run this event... The way I see it, is that the Vic Open is Box Hills problem, not ours. They are attracting big numbers, so good luck to them....

People arent jealous - what they are is FRUSTRATED. There is new innovative technology (tornelo) which can be used to make this event better and be run alongside other technology as an alternative - yet for whatever reason, somebody has banned this from occuring (the first I heard about this was on this thread).

People are frustrated that new, progressive ideas are not being trialled or even considered - instead they are being shut out and there inventors alienated. I have no idea whether tornelo is any good or not - but why not give it a go and have a look at it???

The most amazing thing about all of this is that since the results of the event have been published anyway (why they havnt been put on this forum is anyones guess - they are all over the other forum) I dont understand why David Cordover simply hasnt put them into tornelo and released them...

This whole thing is absolutely bizarre....

Now I will say something nice about the tournament: Well done to Jack Puccini on his tournament so far - its great to see such a talented and creative junior doing so well. If this kid keeps working hard at his chess he could go anywhere. Ive seen him play blitz with Elie Beranjia at MCC and he comes up with some amazing creative ideas - especially in tactical positions - he plays a bit like Greg Hjorth.... (I wouldnt say this if I thought that he would get ahead of himself though - which he wont)

It is good to get quick results and Tornelo can provide that but the absence of Tornelo at any one tournament isn't what frustrates me.

What does frustrate me is the nitpicking one-upmanship and the lack of discussion about the tournament itself. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to wade through this sort of stuff.

Because MOZ is the one who is posting them and he doesn't post here. I'll be carrier-pigeon for the Carrier Pigeon now I have the time to do so.

The draw for round 7 and the cross table including round 6 are available on the CV web site. It is remarkable how close the top players are together with one round to go. The link in my previous post still stands

Jack may not getting ahead of himself, but I fear you may be! Comparing him to Greg is a big call and it's premature to be making such comparisons until he starts to play more consistently at the slower time-limits. He still has much to aspire to, but many are hopeful that he will soon be able to match the deeds of his fellow juniors Ari Dale and Karl Zelesco.

Great work Domagoj coming equal first with Teichmann:clap: I suppose we expect the best from our top players, but still congrats to Erik who once again rises to the challenge :)

Great tournament for Marcus Raine as well:clap:

Of course, I could go on and on, but instead I'll just say great effort to all:)

Im not comparing him to Greg - Im just saying that his playing style is similar! My playing style is similar to Portisch - but he is a hell of a lot better at it!

Congrats to the co-winners.

I noticed one of the organizers entering the games into a computer - I always enter my games promptly into my db and am happy to email them to the organizers, perhaps others could also do so and save them a lot of time?
