I thought this might be a pretty close match but evidently not. Didn't see game 1 but game 2 was a smash after black unsoundly kept symmetry one move too long and got an awful position.

Congratulations to IM Irina Berezina-Feldman for once again qualifying for the Women’s World Cup.

The play off match should have taken place in New Zealand at the end of the Zonal as clearly advertised in the colour brochure of the event.

During the Zonal players had asked the Zone President on a number of occasions to confirm that the play-off would in fact be held in New Zealand at the end of the Zonal if a tie occurred.

A tie appeared unlikely and no confirmation was received by the leading players from the Oceania President who was at the event.

Before play in the final round of the Zonal in NZ no decision by the Zone President had been made as a tie was not likely.

After the final round discussion was held whether the play-off would be held in NZ or played at a later date in Australia.

The whole episode was very distressing for several leading women I spoke to who played in the Zonal.

The original decision was correct and the play-off should definitely have been held in NZ as advertised.
