OK. Just seemed funny in a game where those vying for the top in the sport are grand masters by the age of 14. :)

"Masters" in this sense means "older" rather than the best.

The age is normally after a sportsperson would reach their peak.

I've played masters Rugby which was 35+ and they have masters cricket where I grew up which is 40+

We run a chess competition as part of the Mildura Masters Games, which is open to anybody over the age of 25.

We will run three age divisions: 25-44, 45-64, and 65+.

The next games will be held between the 20th- 28th August 2011, with Chess on the evenings of Tuesday the 23rd and Wednesday 24th.

The chess tournament will be held at The Cottage (in between the old Mildura Homestead and the Woolshed, off Cureton Avenue). It will be a Swiss style, 6 game timed (60 minutes per game) tournament with everybody playing 6 games, over two nights. The first three games will be held on Tuesday 23rd August from 7-10pm, and the next three games plus presentations will be on Wednesday 24th August from 7-10:30pm.
