Count me in please, I will put all the experience I 've gained from MCC's Blitz Marathons to a good use here!

Is a good brunch around 11 pm suggested for this one Grant, or we are going to have a break for late lunch or something?

Starring: Reigning Victorian Blitz Champion, IM Leonid Sandler will be defending his title in this event

That's going to be a real event to be a part of if Igor enters as well. I think that IM Igor Goldenberg has what it takes to wrestle the crown back and extract revenge from their last encounter in which Leonid came from behind to win the match!!

Just in case Baron is not playing, which I don't think will be the case anyway, I just want to see what excuse he will use this time! :P
But don't you worry "Big Guns"!!!

Ashes to Ashes
Dust to Dust
If Baron won't get you
James must!

and what about those upper coming juniors!!!
Ari Dale's fighting spirit vs Baron last Sunday says a lot about the MCC junior's abilities!
Then again the Rochester St Juniors should not be underestimated either!
All in all, it's going to be a War! Join in!

OK, I'll take up your challenge!

Yes!!! that's great!

Real Champions always respond to great challenges, now I want to see similar committments from those who talk the talk! Are they going to walk the walk?

I hear Grant Szuveges is secretly preparing for this. If I can offer him some advice is

Grant remember

This will not be as physically exhausting as the MCC Marathon!

However, the opposition will be stronger!

So prepare for the man and not the board this time!

Those who should be watched are the Leicester (Ari in particular) and Rochester Sts juniors. Expect strong showings from them!

I hear Grant Szuveges is secretly preparing for this.

To be honest, at the time that you wrote this, I hadnt thought for one second about whether I would play in this or not.....

What I have been secretly preparing for, is to attract a record field for this event - in which case, and for this reason, I will play.

We want at least 50 players for this tournament. It is about time that blitz got back on the map! So, if you are coming to represent your club at the Chess Victoria AGM, please play in the blitz beforehand - you may even win it!!!

I just saw the lovely discussion going on in this thread ..that is ''about me'' .

to which HBK replied

You're merely a pawn in the advertising of MCC tournaments Michael.

Can you be more specific please?

An Isolated Pawn?
A Passed Pawn?
A Protected Passed Pawn?
A Backward Pawn

Hey hold on a sec, we old timers used to sac a Knight on f5! Doesn't it work anymore?

We've come to the realisation that the knight sac is most effective on d5, because you gain a tempo on the Queen on c7. Then the d4 knight can go to either f5 or c6 after exd5 ;)

Hey hold on a sec, we old timers used to sac a Knight on f5! Doesn't it work anymore?

I have saced an exchange on f5 against a player with an ICCF rating of over 2400. It was a pure positional sac with no attack, but I have got a pawn.

I played through games of my opponent before playing move one and had decided to sac the exchange. The position is not easy for either player.

Congratulations to James!
Any chance of Tanya Kolak getting the women's title? She did really well and scored 7 points!

Yes well done to James on a convincing win. I agree Tanya Kolak's performance is quite impressive, is there a women's title?

Congratulations to all winners and players attended!
James is a true champion!
He was a winner with one round to spare! Yet, in his eloquent, witty and all inclusive speach he made us all feel honoured to participate in such a great event.
James, you are a great allrounder, a magnificent exponent and a real ambassador of Chess in every dimension, shape and form! We are all proud of you and your achievements!

And definitely a sense of deja vu, thinking about so many positions James has messed up (the latest only a few days ago) when he had clearly winning positions and somehow managed to draw or even lose!:wall:
Yet I 've never heard him complaining or looking for excuses!

Congratulations to MCCs IM James Morris on winning this event! A great performance...

I do have one question though: Why were only 11 rounds played??? We advertised this as a 13 round tournament.....
