Chess Simul held at Hinkler Place Shopping Centre on Saturday 2 October 2010

Twenty one players competed against International Chess Player Jan Priborsky at the Hinkler Place Shopping Centre on Saturday 2 October. Some of Bundaberg’s strongest Senior and Junior players played, hoping to get a win or a draw against Jan.

The simul was arranged by the Bundaberg Chess Club Inc to give the game of chess maximum exposure in the district and it certainly did that!!

Jan played all comers whether they were average players or strong players and played well over seventy games. Jan only lost one game to the Chess Club President John Harris.
Jan is a top rated player from the Czech Republic, and is nearly an International Master.

Chess Club Secretary Allan Menham said that he had many enquiries and much interest from the spectators, some of whom watched the playing for long periods of time.

This was the first time a simul has been held in Bundaberg for many years and the first one held by the present Bundaberg Chess Club Inc. It is hoped to have another simul at a future date.

We have had great feedback from the Simul. we also had a half page in the local Guardian newspaper on 6 October, with a good photo.

We plan to have another one in a few months with senior players from the club taking on any challangers with the proviso that if the challenger wins, the name goes into a draw to win $25

It appears a great way to promote chess in a shopping centre with many people passing the display asking questions and watching:owned:
