FIDE OCEANIA ZONAL ROTORUA 2011 - ACF SELECTIONS

Applications are open to represent Australia at the upcoming FIDE Oceania Zonal Chess Tournaments at the Millenium Hotel, Rotorua, New Zealand, from 25 to 31 January 2011. The event website is at http://www.newzealandchess.co.nz/Zonal2011/ . For all queries about the event please contact the organisers via the Contact Us page at http://www.newzealandchess.co.nz/Zonal2011/contact.html

Australia is entitled to two representatives in the Open tournament and two in the Womens tournament. Each successful applicant is entitled to free twin-share acommodation at the Millenium Hotel, Rotorua, and free entry courtesy of the tournament organisers. No expenses or pocket money will be paid. The winner of the Zonal should be willing and prepared to represent Oceania Zone at the next appropriate FIDE World Cup event.

Applicants for selection as Australian representatives must email the Selections Director, Kevin Bonham, at k_bonham@tassie.net.au by Wednesday October 6 2010, advising that they wish to apply. Players who have not applied to represent Australia in an adult event before must supply the following details:

5.4.1 Full Name

5.4.2 Address

5.4.3 Email address

5.4.4 Fax (if applicable)

5.4.5 Phone number

5.4.6 Nationality

5.4.7 Date of Birth

5.4.8 FIDE Rating

5.4.9 ACF Rating

5.4.10 FIDE Titles held

5.4.11 Current ACF Titles held

Players who have applied before do not need to supply these details but must ensure that they advise of any recent change of details, especially of address, email address and phone number.

Applicants may supply a list of their game or tournament results over the past two years for the consideration of selectors, and may also supply up to 400 words of supporting comment. It is envisaged that the normal selection method (selection by panel) will be employed but in view of relatively tight time constraints, the ACF reserves the right to instead employ the quick selection method (average of ACF and FIDE ratings) if necessary.

If an application is not acknowledged within seven days, please call 0421 428 775. Applicants are required to retain a copy of their email applying for selection. Claims for late application on the grounds of email delivery problems will not be accepted unless accompanied by a copy of the original email and a letter from the applicant's ISP confirming that the email was sent before the deadline.

Please forward this email to anyone who may be interested in applying.

I have moved questions about the event and not related to selection to a new thread in the New Zealand Chess section.

I have also locked this one.

For the two Open positions two applications were received by the deadline:

GM David Smerdon
IM George Xie

and thus unless any late applications with extenuating circumstances are accepted over the next week David and George will be declared selected as our representatives.

For the two Womens positions five applications were received by the deadline:

WIM Laura Moylan
WIM Arianne Caoili
WFM Emma Guo
IM Irina Berezina
WIM Alex Jule

and therefore a selection will be held and I expect results to be available around the end of the month.

The order of selections for this event (which I just noticed I had omitted to post on here earlier although it has been notified by other means) was:

WIM Arianne Caoili
IM Irina Berezina
-----------------
WIM Laura Moylan
WIM Biljana Dekic*
WFM Emma Guo
WIM Alex Jule

* Slightly late application accepted under by-law 5.8.

Unfortunately WIM Caoili has withdrawn at relatively short notice so WIM Laura Moylan is now Australia's second representative subject to confirmation of availability.

Laura is unavailable and now WIM Biljana Dekic is Australia's second representative subject to confirmation.
