With 10 players registered (3weeks out!) so far for the RANGES SPRING BREAK WEEKENDER 18th-19th Sept and most of them juniors, it looks like the big prize money is up for grabs.

Going on ratings, at the moment Domagoj Dragicevic rated 2133 is the runaway favourite to win the $350 FIRST PRIZE money.

Karl Zelesco is his nearest rival rated 1603 and I'm sure he would like to win the $250 for second prize!

And there are potentially SIX rating groups with $60 1st prize in
each!

Domagoj is doing quite well in the Malaysian open right now, with wins over Hilton Bennett (NZ) and Emma Guo and a draw against a 2415 rated IM from Vietnam (Duong The Anh). He should be well rested to take over the No.1 rank position for the Spring break - unless there are other 2000+ rated challengers out there?!

When I saw Denise and Ethan had an identical rating, I thought it might be a typo but according to the ACF rating list, it's no mistake. Talk about sibling rivalry... lol

Anyway, best of luck for the tournament. I'm sure it will go really well. It's a great venue and a very friendly club so I was hoping to play. Unfortunately we have a few too many things on this weekend. I hope to drop in to spectate on the Sunday though.

Thanks Jean for your kind wishes. Yes there are two equal ratings - just a fluke! Maybe they will be in different ratings groups:)

new entries and their rating are:

Antares Car 0
Ari Dale 1606
Finley Dale 929

I am not sure why the final results haven't been put up yet but in equal 1st was Domagoj Dragicevic, Bobby Cheng and Ian Birchall with 5 points. Equal 4th was Michael Addamo and Ari Dale with 4.5 points each. I cannot remember all the rating group prizes but I can remember that Stephen Chen won $20 for beating two rated players as he was unrated. The biggest upset prize went to Ethan Lim beating Andrew Grkow with 711 points difference.

I would like to congratulate the arbiter of the tournament NY Wong and Paul Bearup for organizing a great tournament with had almost more prize money than money collected from the entry fees, which is always great to see.

I will definitely play in this tournament again next year so I hope to see you all again there.

Congratulations on your result maddam12 and to all the prize winners. :) I'll just add that when I dropped in yesterday afternoon, in the last round Ian Birchall was on 4/5 and playing Bobby Cheng on 5/5. I was told later by a fellow Croydon CC member that Ian ended up winning the game to gain him equal first so that's certainly an excellent result for Ian.

I was very fortunate to win against Bobby, but it sure made up for getting smashed by talented 10 year old, Karl Zelesco, in round 3. :wall:

Many thanks to arbiter NY Wong and the organisers at Ranges Chess Club for their efforts to make this tournament a success. The large number of juniors playing in this tournament is testament to the strength of its junior program. Well done!
