Bundaberg One Day Fun Chess Tournament 8 May 2010

Twenty One Players competed in the One Day Fun Chess Tournament in Bundaberg on 8 May.

Competition was fierce as three top players travelled from Brisbane to compete in the Tournament.

In the Senior Division, Craig Stewart from Brisbane won with 7.5 games out of 8 games. He had a draw with another top Brisbane player Josef Wycha in the last round.

Second place in the Senior Division was gained by Nathan Davidson of Brisbane with 7 out of 8 games. Third place was gained by Bundaberg Chess Club President John Harris with 6 games out of 8 games

In the Junior Division, Timothy Harris of Bundaberg had a grand slam win of 8 out of 8 games, an exceptional effort!! He was closely followed by Dylan Hepenstall with 7 out of 8 games. Third place was gained by Aishwarya Preshy with 6 out of 8 games.

One of the Senior games was exceptionally close. Craig Stewart of Brisbane, with one second left on his clock, narrowly defeated Phil Mulholland of Bundaberg. Many of the competitors had never seen a competition game with so close a result!!

Bundaberg Chess Club Secretary Allan Menham, who was Director of Play for the day, said the three strong Brisbane players really put the local players to the test. Another one day Tournament is to be held in Maryborough on Saturday 19 June
