The program at Manly CC for 2010 can be found at www.manlychess.org.au (http://www.manlychess.org.au).
The year began last night with a simul by the club champion for 2008 and 2009, Allan McGregor. Allan won 6 and lost 3 - to club captain Martin van Elmpt, Treasurer of everything chess Norman Greenwood and Chess Chat addict Jonathan Adams. It was a very unusual night at the Manly CC - Jonathan Adams won every game he played! Would that there were more such nights.

Next week is the Manly Lighting Champs followed by the graded club champs. Enter the club champs now by contacting Martin at martinvanelmpt@hotmail.com.

Thanks Adamski. One small correction, Michael Anderson managed to squeeze a draw in the end, so the final score was 5 1/2 - 3 1/2 for Allan, which is not bad at all.
Also, you can follow news about Manly Chess Club on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Brookvale-Australia/Manly-Chess-Club/227996381739?ref=nf). Maybe an idea for other chess clubs as well? It's free, easy to set up, and could help in promoting chess through our extended 'friends' networks.

My game is at http://manlychessgames.blogspot.com/2010/01/allan-mcgregor-vs-jonathan-adams-simul.html. Light annotation by me in an attached comment. He missed some simple tactics. It was only a simul game and Allan's current FIDE rating is only 1897 so no big deal, but I was happy as it was the first time I have won as a participant in a chess simul on the "many" side. I have won before in simuls on the "one" side against (not strong) juniors.

Many times club champion Mark de Groen (rated in the 1900s these days, but used to be higher) won the Manly Lightning Champs tonight with 8/9. Second equal were Georg Pfefferle and Joszef Gonda. Your correspondent, who won 2 years ago, only got 50% tonight, losing to all 3 I have named.
