Almost $500, and that is assuming I drive down on the Friday morning, which is not ideal in itself.

The problem is that for me it is 4 nights due to the late game on Monday.

Also some of those rooms, for example the Tudor, don't accomadate 2+1.

The reason accomodation is so expensive and hard to find is due to EASTER FEST being on the same weekend. If u plan to play book it now otherwise it will all be gone.

For those who are intending to play in the Qld Open in Toowoomba, I would STRONGLY advise that accommodation bookings be made now, so that you do not miss out on accommodation places, or have to pay highly inflated prices.

Do not leave it till the last minute to attempt to make accommodation bookings.

I've been planning to go to this event for awhile.

For those in Brisbane the start times are quite generous allowing time to drive up in the morning there is also as I understand a great deal of flexibility of taking two 0.5 point byes in the first six rounds.

I myself am driving up from Cunnamulla to compete. (7 hour drive hopefully I don't have to make a detour because of the current floods).

I'm really looking forward to the 90 minute time controls as compared to the standard weekender 60 minutes.

For those unfamiliar with the playing venue I believe it will prove to be a great venue. The hall is well lit the floor of the centre is a plastic /rubber composite which shouldn't be as noisy when people get up from chairs as I have found some wooden floors to be. (I was a student at Prep when they opened the Millenium Centre in 2001)

For those with children there are three ovals in immediate vicinity of the millenium centre for plenty of space to play in between rounds. Also if you cross the road to the east there is Webb Park, with swings etcettera + a nice view. In Webb park there are also walking tracks that take you down and up the slope.

Those with green thumbs might take an interest in having a look at the gardens at Prep which are generally well maintained.

Garvin,
you are promoting this tournament as a Fide Tournament and you your self as a FIDE arbiter, additionaly you are listing players according to their ACF Rating??
Players should have been listed according to their FIDE rating and next to it the ACF rating.
This is not agression, just a suggestion to a Fide Arbiter.

Currently the Qld Open only has four fide rated players. Does anyone know if there needs to be a (minimum number or percentage) of the field that has to have fide ratings for the tournament to qualify to be fide rated?

Four FIDE rated players only. The Doeberl Minor could be FIDE rated if it wanted to but it wont.

Four FIDE rated players only. That is only true for round robins of 10 or less players.
For rounds robins of more than 10 players one third must be rated.

For swiss events their is no minimum number of FIDE rated players, however rating a swiss with a very small number of rated players is essentially useless as the number of rated vs rated games and the likelihood of unrated players getting a rating block is very low.

Bill,

You are correct but 4 players would be more than a third if it was a 9 player round robin right? Please correct me if I am wrong.

If it was an 8 player round robin it would be half the field.

Having said that it would be useless running this as a FIDE Rated Swiss as the chances of anyone getting a block are almost 99% unlikely.

This looks like quite a good tournament. 42 seems to be quite a good number for a tournament clashing with the Doeberl Cup. Well done Garvin.

We are happy with the numbers considering it is being held in Toowoomba, so not in Brisbane or the Gold Coast. It is designed for long time control chess for players who are not going to go to Doeberl. Even with Doeberl on, there are still quite a lot of chess players in SE Queensland.

If we had another time of year in Qld where there was four days in a row of public holidays, then we would probably run the Qld Open then, but there isn't.

Well done to Robbie Peck in round 6 for beating a player more than 800 points higher rated (with black as well).

Garvin has there been other notable games?

Two players, Yan Li and Shanshan Ke, who started off the tournament as unrated, do appear to be able to play quite well and will probably receive their first ACF rating around 1600 or so.

Got to be quick around here you pick up on my typo. I fixed it up before you posted your reply. I believe that's the second time I've done that typo, I read over it and don't see it until after I've hit the post/send button.
