Thanks for posting Jono. You beat me to it! I was just about to list it today! The first time we ran this tournament we had a great turnout of 32 players, let's see if we can beat this :D .

Parents and chess widows can enjoy themselves upstairs playing the pokies or relaxing on the deck with a drink while the chess fans are getting down to some serious  business downstairs in the Legends Room.

Check out http://www.redlandsrslchessclub.110mb.com/2010_Summer_Cup.htm for an updated list of players and go to http://www.redlandsrslchessclub.110mb.com/Redlands_Summer2010.pdf for the official entry form.

try a different browser first Garvin.
I have tried IE, firefox and safari and have also tried on both laptop and main computer. At the moment with optus I am having more problems with being able to speak to a person from an Australian, rather than overseas, call centre. To which I have had a gutful of. Seems the only time to get an Australian cell centre is to ring at 7am EST.

While I try and sort this matter out with Optus, it would be helpful if someone would email me the pdf flyer at ggrayggray@hotmail.com or graygarvin@gmail.com?

Garvin Gray - 1230
Tom Slater-Jones - Unrated Junior
Tom Slater-Jones has and ACF classical rating of 726 and a QJ rating of 966.

I do have a rapid rating of 1085, so that should be used since other players rapid ratings are being used.

Thanks for the ratings update Garvin. I'm finding player's Rapid ratings hard to find as the current Rapid list has only a few people on it.

Thanks for the ratings update Garvin. I'm finding player's Rapid ratings hard to find as the current Rapid list has only a few people on it.The easy solution to this is for organisers, such as yourself, to rapid rate more of their rated tournaments. Then more players would be on the active rapid list, be easier to find and their rapid ratings would be more current.

As as, for most players, their rapid ratings are so out of date that it can be unadvisable to use their rapid ratings.

Do you know how to import players into swiss perfect? If so, I can send you the sp rapid import file that has a lot more players on it.

If it's the one that's on the CAQ ratings page, I'll download it from there. Thanks!

Craig said you played a good game against Nakauchi. Don't suppose you remember it?I don't remember the whole thing exactly but we reached this position or one very similar.

8/3k1p1p/4pbp1/1rPp4/rP1P1B2/1R1R1K2/5PPP/8 w - - 0 1

I managed to unbind myself with Bd2 and Ke3 followed by Ra3. Gene was very short on time, played e5 to give himself a passed d-pawn. I managed to get the c-pawn home, sac my bishop for his pawn, and pick off his pieces with my queen.

Oleg was unfortunate in our game. I had been a cold exchange down for most of the endgame and had managed to win a pawn and finally reached this position.

8/3N1KP1/8/3k4/8/8/8/5r2 w - - 0 1

I blocked the check with Nf6+. Now ...ke5 g8=Q and it's a QvR when I was pretty low on time. However Oleg picked up his rook to play ...Rg1. But I enforced touch move and he had to take the knight.

Thanx Boris. The first game shows that a bad B is often not so bad with Rs on the board, since it can protect Ps and free the Rs for activity. In the second, Solo could win QvR with little time (I know, because he did it to me!), but fair enough to enforce touched piece and save yourself the trouble.

Garrett

In the second, Solo could win QvR with little time

That's a tough endgame to win against best defence.

I don't think I would have been able to win the Boris-Oleg position with the 30second increment, let alone a minute for the entire finish.

cheers
Garrett.
