Hi Ninja,

Instead of the previous 5 round swiss.

Would you like to play? I am collecting entries, so am always delighted to hear of entries well in advance.

I believe it will be a very good fun event

Take care and God Bless, Macavity

That's a bit severe isn't it? Perhaps just giving it a rest for a bit or even givingup chess altogether is a more proportionate response.

I think chess nuts need picking now and then, otherwise they go off? But I am no expert.... At oxford and cambridge don't they refer to being taken down - but maybe that is something else again.

Yes of course. I'm sorry. Just a joke. 'Put me down' can be taken to mean being euthanased. I was implying that being euthanased was an extreme way to handle one's chess losses. Please carry on and forget I mentioned it.

Hi Macavity,

Would have loved to attend the advertised 5 round Christmas Swiss weekender as I have done regularly for a number of years and as I had penciled into my diary to again attend this year , however I have absolutely no interest in attending an 11 round rapid.

Looks like we will be heading out to BHCC later in the month to get our Dec chess fix.

At the same time, BCC players are welcome to MCC to get their chess fixed in Rapid! Bored of think like an elephant for half an hour on every move? come and play Christmas Swiss at MCC!

And come and play allegro at 2 pm today for ''dress rehersal'' for the next weekend's tournament

I remember playing in this event many years ago! Was normally quite a strong tournament (however I dont think it was a rapid event)

Do you have a list of participants as yet?

Hello everyone,

Also attending today are Karl Zelesco and Matthew Cheah, both of whom will arrive for the start of Round 3, owing to sporting commitments in the morning. I have advised Matthew's mother that they can have 2 half point byes for Rounds 1 and 2.

Best of luck to all the players, and to the organizer, Jamie Kenmure

The tournament was won by David Gardner who scored 10.5/11. He played way better than the rest of us and fully deserved his success:clap:

I was second on 9 points and Domagoi finished 3d on 7.5

I have never heard of David Gardner, any details? Is it the same player who had his Aus Champs application rejected?

Okay then the name is Garner. Must be quite strong. Do you know is he going to play the major instead of the champs?

According to the website, they've just put him in the Major instead. By the sounds of it, he could dominate it. That would make it look stupid :P

David Garner hasnt played a FIDE rated game since the the April 2008 rating period when he played 2 game. According to the FIDE website in the last 3 years he has only played 7 games and only 20 games in the last 7 years.

Congratulations to David Garner for winning the tournament, Michael Baron for coming second and Domagoj for coming third.

Also congratulations to Tony Tosevski for winning rating group A and Michael Tanner and Michael Addamo for winning rating group B.

We had a rating bounty for the tournament and it was whoever won the most games against the top 5 seeds of the tournament. The winner was Jack Shanks who scored 2 wins and they were against Michael Krunic and Chris Kolak.

Overall it was a good tournament!!!

David Garner hasnt played a FIDE rated game since the the April 2008 rating period when he played 2 game. According to the FIDE website in the last 3 years he has only played 7 games and only 20 games in the last 7 years.
It would be interesting to see how many non-FIDE rated chess games he has played in this period... maybe a few more than this. Or not. Either way, he's obviously still pretty strong.
