View Full Version : Chess Chat Tournament #9

I think it is time for tournament number 9.

Time control: 14 days per player plus 3 days per move. Players must also make one move every seven days in each game

Players who time out in half their games or more will be removed from the tournament. Results from their games will be removed from the tournament. So in effect, if we have eight players and one player is withdrawn due to time outs, the tournament will continue just like the tournament was a seven player from the start.

This tournament is a human only style tournament, where engine and endgame tablebase use is not permitted. Databases, opening books are ok to use.

Format will be single or double round robin, dependant on number of entrants.

Players who are on the unauthorised withdrawal list are not permitted to enter this tournament.

Any other rules I have forgotten?

Yeah the one what happens to players who get barred during their game?

Do you have a soft heart?

Prisoners get to play chess you know!

Prisoners get to play chess, but not in the bank they robbed!

My opinion is that banned members can't play chess either during ban, however, they should not be forfeited because of that, thinking time should just be calculated as if the ban period lasted 0 days. Just an opinion, I guess if I'm not even in the tourney, you should only listen to me if you think my arguments make sense, I don't really have a vote.

These tournaments occur on chesschat and so it is a requirement that players in the tournament comply with site rules whilst in the tournament. Those that do comply with the site rules should not have to wait around for someone who has gotten suspended.

If a player times out whilst suspended, then they lose.

What a silly question, of course not. I thought this was well known, sheesh!

My heart will always go to those who would have to wait around for someone who could not comply with site rules. The people you are talking about usually are serial offenders and deserve no sympathy. By getting suspended again, they have shown no consideration for the other players in the tournament by getting suspended and expecting everyone else to wait around for them.

The rules are simple, if you play in the tournament, comply with the site rules or risk timing out your games. And if you time out more than half your games, the arbiter will withdraw you from the tournament.

Why not just dont get banned?  :eh:  :wall:

Because if I did I could not get barred anymore - get it! And that is the whole purpose of it.

As a new player to these tournaments, I should make you aware that if you do not complete the tournament ie you time out your games without a really good reason, you will be considered an unauthorised withdrawal and not permitted to participate in the next tournament.

Unfortunately this type of rule has become necessary due to players in previous tournaments not completing their games, resulting in forfeits, time outs and much more work for myself as organiser than necessary.

If you understand this, then I am happy to add you as an entrant.

So we get 7 days. Thats pretty fair.

The time control is 14 days initial plus 3 days per move increment. Also you must make a move every 7 days in each game.

So you receive an initial 14 days and for each move you make you receive an extra 3 days. So the time control works exactly like fischer mode in otb chess, with the exception of the 7 day rule.

The number of games will be very similar regardless of the number of players. If there are more than six, then it will be a single round robin. If six or less, double round robin.

We now have four players. I will give it another week and if there are no further entries I will get the four person tourney started.

It is not really a tournament with just three players, so we need more entrants before I will start it.

Anyone? We need only one more person to start this tourney.

Perhaps the tournament would be more prestigious if it had a better title? Perhaps the words Australian and/or National could be squeezed in somewhere.

This tournament has been done and dusted for over a month. The next tournament is a freestyle one: http://www.chesschat.org/showthread.php?t=11127 and I will be drumming up more entries after the Aus Juniors has finished.
