Thanks for the post Watto.
My Son participated in the tournament last year and really enjoyed. The location is perfect but just that you may need to give some extra details as to reaching the venue which most of them found it difficult last year.

No problem. :) It is a lovely location, isn't it.

If going by car, I think that checking out the Melway page 52 C1 would be clearer than any directions I could give as I don't know where people would be travelling from. It’s about a 45 minute trip from Hoddle Street, Fitzroy. If you are coming from that direction, it would be best to get onto the Eastern Freeway, then onto the Maroondah Highway in Ringwood. We find it quite straight forward to get from the city to Mooroolbark but if you let me know exactly what people found difficult, I could try to explain further. :)

If by train, Billanook College is 2.5 Km from Mooroolbark Station which is the second last station on the Lilydale line. Here are some directions which The Snail King posted last year:

From: Mooroolbark Railway Station, Brice Avenue, Mooroolbark, VIC
To: Billanook College, 197 Cardigan Road, Mooroolbark, VIC

Go east on Brice Avenue (travel 600m)
Make a sharp right on Hull Road (travel <100m)
Turn left on Cardigan Road (travel 1.9km)
TOTAL TRIP: 2.5km

Guy and I will most likely play again too. So might well see you there. :)

For those who weren't there, Guy West won the Open section last year with Bobby Cheng and Cedric Antolis coming 2nd and 3rd respectively. Isaac Ng scored the most points in the U8 to U12 group, with 6.5/7, while Vinay Lakshman scored 7/7 in the U14 to U18 group.

We hope to see many of last year's competitors again as well as many new players.

I had some trouble getting to their entry form on the web, so they sent me one - see attached. As others may also have trouble, I thought putting it here could be useful.

Also they are going away from email entries (last year it got a bit confusing I am told), so please either post or fax it to the school - details on the form.

Hi lakshman,

I'm just helping to promote this tournament as a chesschat regular and Croydon CC member (and I also happen to live up the road from the tournament. :)) I'm not actually involved in the organisation so I don't have access to the list which Billanook College would have (all I know is that Guy and myself are playing in the Open section.)

I'll see what I can find out.

No, that's fine. I would suggest that people look at my post as well though if they'd like to see the range in strength of the entrants. Otherwise it's a bit misleading because the strongest players are now mostly all unrated. :)
p.s. I've edited my original post to make it clear mine were classic ratings, not rapid. I probably should have done that earlier - sorry.
