The SACA website says this Class 1 GP event will be on 3rd-4th of October. Does anyone have further details? Specifically:

Venue: Will it be in Ranelagh St?

Time of last round: Last year the final round started Sunday 5:30. Looks like this year it will again just be over the first 2 days of the weekend, so I would assume similar round times.

Thanks William. I'm making some travel arrangements this week and extending my stay in Adelaide by a few days to play in this event is a definite possibility (p>>0). I'll work with Ranelagh St and finishing Sunday evening for now. But please keep me in mind if there are any changes.

Thanks for that. I registered with the online form which seemed to work ok. However I did receive a delivery failure on one of the recipient email addresses: alang at chariot dot net. You might want to look into that one.

I think it is supposed to have a .au at the end.

Thanks Scott, That makes sense and I have forwarded the failure on to that email address, which seems to have worked. (Well I received no error anyway). The powers that be should still update the online form.

No problem. On the whole a pretty quick and easy-to-use system. Just one (final?) quick question, will credit card payment be available at registration?

Unfortunately no, being a poverty striken organization we cannot afford the exorbitant bank charges.

No worries. I'll come cashed up.

Financials are not my area but I understand from the NSWCA Treasurer that online payment via Paypal (which accepts major credit cards) is reasonably cost effective once set up. I appreciate that SACA is a smaller organisation and so what might be reasonable for one might not apply to the other. But perhaps it is an avenue worth exploring. Just a suggestion and not a criticism.

I'm very much looking forward to the tournament, in fact the whole trip to Adelaide promises to be interesting and fun. One of the other events I will at least spectate and perhaps participate in is a simul being given by Ms Giang Nguyen.

Numbers very low but most of the field is between 1700 and 2000 so the competition should be very interesting.

Yes I had an interesting game against Bill Kerr in round three. The moves might not be quite right at the end as we were both in the last 5 minutes by then. The sac seemed to work but perhaps 20.Qxh7 was a little cheeky, but all's well that ends well.

You showed a distinctly materialistic streak after the sac there Barry. But before long you had too much material!

I had only enough material to win that endgame. One pawn less and it is probably drawn. ;)

Here is my game against another 1900ish player Edgar Mdinaradze (round 2)...

Cox - Mdinaradze, 3/10/2009

1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.Nc3 Nc6 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4 g6 6.e4 d6 7.Be2 Bg7 8.Be3

0-1

It has similarities with the Cox-Kerr game but this time I lost my way. I feel 17.h4 was justified and perhaps even 28.Qd4 but Crafty suggests I should have played 27.f5 instead of Bf3.

Anyway it was a comfortable opening for white and a very interest middle game.

Kevin Sheldrick and Alistair Cameron shared first place on 5 points.

I finished up on 3.5 points. Briefly lost a in a roughly equal position after missing a check and touched move losing a piece. Round 5 I had a tight game against Geoff Barber but won in the end after my opponent missed a loose rook. Final round I had a draw against Mato Jelic.

The last game to finish was a nail biter between Bill Kerr and Alistair Cameron. Alistair won in the end but not without plenty of mistakes on both sides. Both players deep in time pressure. I wouldn't mind see that game in full.

Tie for first between Kevin Sheldrick and Alistair Cameron. Impressive result for Kevin Sheldrick - no losses. Another good performance by Alistair Cameron with his only loss to Sheldrick in the first round then winning all the rest of his games. Best of luck in Sydney at the Junior Masters, Alistair.
