Since there are no tournaments in progress, time to start a call for entrants.

Last tournament held was a human tournament, so this one is freestyle.

For those unfamiliar with freestyle- engine play, tablebase use is permitted.

Those that wish to play, please state their interest here or by pm to me.

Now that the three tournaments have finished, lets see if there is any more interest.

I'm out for the rest of the year; want to use any time I get free that I might have spent on CC tournaments to annotate my old games instead.

Apologies to anyone who was looking forward to beating me!

I'll give it a go.

That makes three. At least we have something more than a match between Boris and myself.

If we can get a fourth, I will start.

If we get a fourth, or just stay with three, do you guys want 2 or 4 games against your opponents?

Desmond

Would prefer 2.

I need a more committal answer than this. Are you in or out?

I'll play. I'll dropout though if Nic confirms.

You can still play. That would make five with you and Nic in. It's all good if you play.

I think just 2 would be good for me too

Looks like it will be double round robin.

I have heard nothing back from Nic DC, so looks like we are going with 4 players.

Boris
ggrayggray
Schu
Saragossa

I will post the games later tonight.

Nic DC, if you do want to play, you need to confirm this.

Some rules for the un-initiated:

1) A player can claim a result once a tablebase position is reached. So as soon as the 5/6 man tbs are showing a result and the result is claimed and verified by myself, the game is over.

If the position is showing a win in more than 50 moves, the 50 move rule does not apply and the result is a win.

2) Please make sure that the move you post in the game is the move you want to play. Incorrect move notation is a binding move and can not be retracted, if the move is legal of course.

So please be careful.

Also, after a game is finished, it is appreciated if one of the participants from the finished game writes the result in this thread, so I am aware of it and can adjust the cross table as required.

Time control:

In a previous thread, KB and I came around to this proposal:

* Three day increment for each move, cumulative from a base of seven days (eg must play move 1 by day 7, move 2 by day 10, move 3 by day 13, etc)
* Seven days maximum for any given move.

Sorry about that, I've just been really busy the last few days, but go on without me.

Ahh there is nothing like a couple of boring games in freestyle, hey Boris ;)

Well done Garvin on the tournament win. Beat me comprehensively in both our games.

I'm going to avoid playing these things in future if the entrants don't have a proven record of finishing games.

Now that I have run quite a few of these, I really think it is time that we start keeping a list of unapproved withdrawers and only those with a track history of finishing games are allowed to enter.

So the first two unapproved withdrawers:

Saragossa
Schu

I was thinking of a 'Dog Box' in Kaitlin's where miscreants are locked-up and placed on show for the world to see. Not so much for those discuss and preempt their disappearances, but more the peepz that just drift away leaving everyone else to work out what's going on.

Oddly  a very high proportion of young people. What does that tell you?

For some time I have been marking games [timeout] so a dredge through recent tournaments would probably give you a good idea of who has a history of timing out.

I think that many people are surprised at the amount of effort involved. Even just remembering to reliably monitor the forum and make moves reliably on cue is a serious commitment. Let alone playing well enough to do it justice.

In any case it is customary for a player who times out in more than half their games to be excluded from the remainder. This will be the policy from the next tournament on!

This tournament can now be moved to the archived section.
