Will there be the option to take a 1/2-point bye if you can't make it for any given round? Either way, count me in.

Excellent. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for making this happen -- not many FIDE rated events on the Australian calendar. Very convenient to have one included without much travel expense. (:

Maybe it's just the good luck I've been having, but I like this tournament format. Back in St. Louis (in the US), they have a 4-round one-game-a-week tournament every month... so, in other words, there's an opportunity to play a rated game almost every Wednesday. It's interesting to see what happens when the "oops, I forgot to sleep last night" factor is removed from the tournament.

Is there any chance that there might be similar tournaments in the future? MCC runs something like this, right?

Thanks, but I think that my results are deceptive. If you look at the overall quality of each move I've made and each move my opponents have made, then I I've been outplayed for the most part... I've just been getting lucky that my tactical shots have been working.

Anybody know what happened in Parramatta yesterday?

Tomek destroyed Gary last night.

Seems like Tomek destroys everything he sees as of late. I'm certainly not looking forward to playing him next week, especially if I'm still in 1st place then... he'll make short work of my previous good luck.

What are other known results since the last update? What are the scores?

I'm at 4/5 right now, after losing a stupid Albin game to V.Suttor (that's what I get for trying to play an opening that I've never even tried out in a blitz game). I have postponed games against S.Kabir (he was out of the country) and A.Huynh (I had to go to a seminar that day).

On my way to go and lose against S.Jurd in a few minutes... haven't really been feeling the chess lately. Med school exams have been looming... maybe I'll play better after my 1-week uni break at the end of August.

That's the spirit! :o

I lost interest in this tournament about halfway through. By that stage the tournament had served its purpose of letting me know where I am at. (It is obvious that I have many things to work on.) Now I just want to salvage my rating and will be taking the risky choice of putting myself in a "must-win" attitude for both remaining games.

Also I stopped looking at chess due to realising that I'd like to get good at Go. Nothing else has mattered.

Your game with Tomek will be an interesting one. I share your respect for him. He's had a very nice style with steady results even from the early junior days. A fitting pairing to finish the tournament.

So that puts me at 4.5/6. On pace for a 50% score...Other results not posted.

V Suttor 1-0 James Watson
G McNarara 0-1 T Rej

Due to Brendan Norman withdrawing before completing 50% of his games all his games in the score of the tournament counts as zero but any games he played will still be rated.

Ouch. So that means my 4.5/6 is now 3.5/5? I was excited about being guaranteed a 50% score.

Rej Tomek really looks like he is going to win.
He may not be first but I reckon he is still favourite.
How come no one told me about this tournament.
It wasn't published in the NSWJCL magazine.

Tomek has finished the tournament with a score of 6/8
I believe that Vincent Suttor is currently sitting at 5.5/7, so he has a good shot at winning the tournament. He was losing to Krishna on Monday, but somehow managed to score a draw.
I'm at 4.5/7 now, after losing to Tomek and winning against Arthur. Too bad the win against Brendan doesn't count... 5.5/8 sounds much better than 4.5/7. I still need to play Kabir.
I think Arthur has 4/7, or something along those lines.
Krishna and Gary had relatively low scores (something like 1 or 2), but I can't remember exactly what they were.
No idea how James and Sebastian are doing.

So I finished with 5/8 or 6/9, depending on whether you count the game with Brendan.

This looks very bad and makes me concerned about playing in the NSW Reserves tournament. Even more so with eleven days left and only four players listed.

Would it be forced into double round robin!?
