Everyone had an enjoyable afternoon of chess in Bathurst. Bathurst were
great hosts with many thanks to Chris Dowling and Mark Evans who ensured
that no one wanted for anything. With mixed results from the two matches
conducted, Interclub 2009 is off and running.
In the Bathurst v Blayney match, the spoils were shared 1.5-1.5. Naum
Todoroski got the better of Mick Hendricks on Board 3 to give Bathurst the
early lead, Slavko Kojic and Phil Bourke quickly resolved into a drawn
position, leaving John McLoon and Fritz Van der Wal to decide the outcome.
In an entertaining game where John seemed to have the better of it for a
good while, Fritz created enough complications to overwhelm John, win the game and restore the balance of the match. So first round, first drawn match! Indicates that
this year's series will be as hard-fought as last year :)
The second match produced a very different result, and for very different
reasons, Dubbo had to go in undermanned due to players being unavailable,
fielding one new player and a ring-in to make up their team :), whilst
Katoomba debuted a new face, young gun Gil Morris in his first Interclub
match. Ross Hamilton set the tone with a quick win against Marley who may
have let his nerves get the better of him, then Glynn Curran triumphed in a
very neat tactical battle against Col Parsons, and though Sandy fought hard,
Gil was not going to be denied, registering a nice win to complete the 3-0
rout for Katoomba.

Bathurst v Blayney
John McLoon 0 - 1 Fritz Van der Wal
Slavko Kojic .5 - .5 Phil Bourke
Naum Todoroski 1 - 0 Mick Hendricks

Dubbo v Katoomba
Sandy Aich 0 - 1 Gill Morris
Marley ? 0 - 1 Ross Hamilton
Col Parsons) 0 - 1 Glynn Curran (Game didn't actually count, it was a make up game to give all of the Katoomba's players a game.)

Looking forward to Round Two on 31/5/09.

thanks for the info and the advice mate, although being a NSW ex-pat I know the ropes quite well around the area! Shouldn't have said "ropes" actually since I tied one of me knots in some cave up there! :)
