Its simple, if it’s a round robin it can’t be 8 rounds or in fact an even number of rounds.

How are players taking part determined? And how does 8 rounds work in a round robin?

Also interesting that the details imply it is an eight round round robin, which I don't believe works (7-8 players = 7 rounds, 9-10 players = 9...
